Our History
Panizzera Meat Co. was started in 1914 by Constante and Margaret Panizzera, Italian Immigrants from the Lake Como region of Italy. They began with a small butcher shop and slaughter facility in Occidental, California, a magnet for Italian immigrants from similarly mountainous and wooded regions in Tuscany. Constante continued butchering until he was 88 years old. Joe Panizzera carried on the family tradition eventually handing it over to his son Bob.
After nearly 60 years of meat processing, Bob Panizzera finally decided to retire in 2014, the businesses 100 year anniversary. His two apprentices, Ryan and Josh, have learned over the years how to carefully continue whole animal butchery, manufacture sausages and with Bob's approval took over the company. They’ve since added two retail stores and a monthly subscription meat delivery service. Vowing to continue the tradition, they look forward to another 100 years of Panizzera Meat Co. success.
